[ cooking amongst a variety of other more domestic chores had always hit... relatively close to home for vane. it was always something he sort of found solace in, and in times of strife like these, it's easy to fall back on. if anything, it's the least he could provide to those he cared for. especially, within his immediate vicinity. it's why, one day, he cuts into wherever cain is. he knocks on the nearest wall: ] Delivery!
[ he announces as convincingly as he can. before, he gives a small chuckle. ] I just thought you could use a bit of a break. [ if he thinks about it, cain seemed like a pretty mysterious guy? ... and between the napping? he must be a busy person.
hence!! sweets to wake him up! ] They say sweets are good for clearing your mind! [ little does he know...
the ingredients he got has been watered using hornty spyro waters. ]
[ Cain is very busily napping on the couch in a beam of sunlight, so when Vane knocks on the wall and wakes him up, it takes him a second to realize what's going on. First, he opens his eyes and blinks a few times at Vane's cheery face. Next, he props himself up on one elbow and knuckles at his eyes to get rid of the grit. Then, and only then, does he register that Vane has brought him food.
Vane is definitely the best homemaker, bringing him breakfast in bed! Breakfast on the couch! Brunch on the couch, whatever, the point is that Vane's brought him food and suddenly, Cain is starving. ]
Ah, that's for me? It smells amazing. [ Amazing enough that Cain's not even going to try to go back to sleep for another five minutes!
He may regret this later. Never again will he decide that something else is more important than a nap. ]
[ he's relieved when he doesn't have to prod too much.
... and honestly, it's kind of cute watching the way he opens his eyes up to food. it kind of reminds him of a cat, and somehow the concept gives him a bit of a laugh. honestly, he half-wondered if cain could eat immediately after waking up, but it seems like there were no problems on that front.
or at least, there weren't any visible signs of rejection. ]
But, oh? I'm glad! This pie actually had some rare fruits in it, so I was pretty excited to try some! [ as always, his tone is chipper. enthusiastic, even. then without further ado, he's already moving in to take a seat next to him on the couch. albeit with his frame, his leg is probably mere centimeters from clipping cain's body (sorry, friend!) once nice and situated, he moves the nearest table a bit with his foot, dragging the edge of it closer. ]
Besides, it might be funny coming from me, but I thought it came out pretty well!
[ Cain barely even notices that Vane's invading his personal space. He doesn't think as he draws his legs up a little to make room — and then promptly stretches them out again, across Vane's lap. If Vane's going to sit on his couch, he can deal with having Cain comfortable, that's only fair.
Though Cain's a lot more interested now that he's properly awake in the smell of the pie. It really does smell amazing, tantalizing enough that his stomach lets out a growl. Huh. He hadn't even thought he was that hungry, but apparently he was wrong. ]
It looks perfect. I didn't realize you were so accomplished a baker.
[ it is unfortunate that it is made of fruits and not of a type of fungus.
still, when cain reclines his legs back up on his lap, vane doesn't seem to mind it. if anything he treats it as casually as anything else. though, he does move them slightly. propping them closer against his torso, at least as he reaches over to cut him a piece of pie. ] Heh, heh! I did my best! I don't know if it's as good as the ones the village grannies make, but...
Here! [ vane holds the plate out to cain. though, reanalyzing the situation...
cain did just wake up? what if he's too tired to realize??? the food is here?? vane seems to go over these (potentially troubling) scenarios before just picking up some flakey pie crust with the fork and putting it right to cain's mouth. ]
Cain blinks at the pie that magically appears in front of his mouth. Huh. Is he really awake? Is this maybe a dream where delicious baked goods just get teleported into easy eating reach? If so, he's quite happy not to wake up again.
Without questioning it, Cain leans forward enough to eat the proffered bite of pie. He chews, swallows, and lets out a happy sigh. ]
It's better. I don't wanna wake up until I've eaten five slices.

of course, once cain finishes that bite, vane prepares another and another. he even seems perfectly ready to cut the next slice, too. though, it's in this process of trying to stuff cain (in a very innocent and pure manner), that his own stomach... growls.
But meanwhile, poor, innocent, unsuspecting Cain, who trusts Vane with so much of his heart, is being fed forkfuls of betrayal! Scrumptious forkfuls, Cain's quite happily munching away. Betrayal tastes fruity and delicious.
But when he hears that growl, Cain swallows his current mouthful of pie and... starts laughing.
He gathers himself after a moment, and says to Vane, a little dryly: ]
The baker should taste his own pie, don't you think?
[ ( conan voice ) a criminal always returns to the scene of the crime...
it's a horrible habit to have. or rather, a horrible constitution. to have the ability to eat despite not being particularly hungry. though vane hasn't eaten that long ago, watching cain enjoy himself makes the pie look extra irresistible. hence, he swallow hard, before it seems like ... cain has entirely read through his desire to Eat.
he seems sheepish though, especially as he rubs the back of his neck. ] Then don't mind if I do. Honestly, I only taste tested a bit of the ingredients earlier, but— [ he wipes up his ... metaphorical saliva, before he also digs in to a sizable piece. ] Mm...!

thoughtfully, he turns his eyes back to cain who he is fully prepared to feed another slice to, but it's here, he begins to actually feel a little warm. he felt it before when he ate some of the fruits raw, but... it seems amplified somehow. he reaches over to tug at the collar of his shirt a little as he turns to cain. he gives him an almost awkward smile. as if to ask if he's... also hot?? ]
