[ No... no memory? As if he's somehow forgotten their very intimate encounter at the lagoon? Cain's so startled by the out of left field question that he finds himself gaping at Percival, eyes wide, mouth open. The book slowly slips from his hands, falling to the floor with a loud clap.
The sudden noise breaks Cain's shock. He laughs, puts his head down trying to stifle his mirth, to no avail. ]
[ He doesn't really expect a reaction like that, and clears his throat in surprise, now at a loss for how to continue what he's started. ]
What's so funny?! This is a serious matter! Our minds were manipulated, coerced into doing-- [ Now, with the memory coming back as fresh and vivid as the day it happened, he diverts his gaze as his face grows hot. ] -- Such acts.
[ Oh, the blush is cute. Is Percival, Emperor of Flame, prince of Wales, really so easily embarrassed when it comes to sex? It's... incredibly cute, and Cain shamelessly steals a peek before he lifts his head to take a little mercy on Percy. ]
It wasn't bad, though, was it? [ His voice is soft, almost gentle. ] It's not like I hate you.
[ And he's pretty sure that while they may not be very close, Percival at least doesn't hate him, either. ]
[ It's not the act, necessarily, that embarrasses him, but the circumstances under it happened. To have been suggestible to such manipulation made him feel weak, and that was one feeling he loathed having. ]
W-wasn't bad?!
[ This seems to be a game of going back and forth and progressively shocking each other, because this is enough to strike Percival dumb for a few seconds. His frown deepens, still in awe that Cain can take something like this so... in stride. ]
No, I suppose the physical act itself wasn't bad, necessarily... [ That's not exactly the best compliment, but any higher praise seems extremely weird. Like he enjoyed it too much (he did). ]
It wasn't neither of our faults, but what's stopping this from happening again? Are the people of this world truly okay with this?
Well, next time we'll be a bit more careful about what lagoons we go swimming in...
[ Cain shrugs, the picture of unruffled calm. The truth is that he's not exactly as unbothered by the whole lack of conscious intent as he seems, but he's also not going to go on a crusade against a magical hot springs. That just seems like an exercise in futility, and part of the blame lies on his own shoulders for not having uncovered the rumor to be forewarned about the lagoon's properties... But regardless, it's hard for him to ascribe malice to a pool of water.
And since there wasn't any nefarious purpose behind their escapade, Cain doesn't see a reason to let this turn into a whole thing. He and Percival are from the same world, they need to be able to work together, not have some lingering embarrassment about sleeping with each other turning things awkward. Besides, he remembers how Percival had been moaning, the encounter was definitely more than wasn't bad. ]
But I enjoyed myself. [ His grin sharpens just the slightest bit as his voice brightens into outright blitheness. ] You were very attentive.
N-Next time?! You're out of your mind if you think--
[ There won't be a next time! Or so he thinks. While Cain is the picture of unruffled calm, Percival continues to be no chill.
Cain has an odd way of simmering down his anger, or rather, redirecting the emotions into something else. Usually embarrassment.
Quite frankly, he's tired of Cain always having the upper hand!! (It doesn't help that Percival makes it so easy). As quickly as he can, he tries to suppress his increasingly flustered state at the brash compliment, instead crossing his arms and diverting his eyes. ]
Hm. Of course I am. Manipulated or not, I never do anything half-heartedly.
[ He continues before the embarrassment threatens to rise from the ground and swallow him whole. ]
I-- I'm glad that you apparently happen to be the same in that regard.
Of course. It'd be rude to my partner if I didn't, after all.
[ He bats his eyes at Percival, only a little insincere — after all, he means every word he's said, but maybe not with such enthusiasm as he's exhibiting. And it's certainly true that they'd both come at their coupling whole-heartedly. Cain has the marks on his skin to prove it, some of them even visible where his shirt's slipped open in his lazy repose.
There's an awful lot of them. Percival was very attentive. ]
And who knows, there's a hundred other lagoons out there. It's impossible to say one won't have the same properties, right? [ Okay, now that they know it's a possibility, it's probably not that hard at all to avoid be-spelled lagoons, but where's the fun in taking mercy on Percival and his flustered state? ] It could have been worse; you could have been bad at it! [ Such a comfort... ] But you weren't, so if I have to be stuck under a love spell with anyone again, you'd be my first choice.
[ He finds that hard to believe, and though he's quickly regained his composure, he's in danger of losing it again as his gaze lingers for a second too long on one of those marks on Cain's neck.
... Aaand, there goes his poise again. What kind of a guy was Cain, that he'd say such things so easily? Did he not realize the implications of his words? Or was Percival so flabbergasted that he could be so open and honest, the feeling being mutual, but Percival having the "sanity" not to speak it? ]
Oi, don't jinx it! Stop talking about love spells like it's going to happen ag--
[ First choice. FIRST CHOICE?! ]
I must get going. I'll be late for an important appointment!
[ Yeah, he's so flustered he's actually just leaving. ]
[ He watches for a second, genuinely surprised, as Percival beats a hasty retreat towards the door. And he tries, very hard not to laugh, but he can't help it, just— Percival is running away.
But Cain collects himself enough to rise, darting off the couch and crossing the room to wrap a hand around Percival's arm, just above the elbow, before he can get too far. ]
Wait, wait! [ There's only a twinkle in his eyes and the smile on his face to betray his laughter. ] It wasn't only politeness, of course. Come on, we should talk about it. [ He tugs at Percival's arm, gently, just a suggestion of heading toward the couch and sitting down for something more like a real conversation. ] I don't want this to be a problem between us.
[ He would argue that he's not running away, but that the matter is settled and there's nothing else to discuss. (He's totally running away).
He does stop before he can completely leave, glancing down to where Cain tugs on his arm. He frowns, but follows Cain's implied suggestion of sitting down. ]
There's no problem between us. We are adults, aren't we?
[ He was mostly worried that Cain might be upset, but now, seeing that he's not, he's mostly just annoyed that he feels mocked. ]
I don't know about you, but I'm not typically intimate with someone that I barely know.
[ It's something that exposed vulnerability in him, which he doesn't allow to be seen so easily. ]
It should be obvious, then, that I don't consider it an amusing matter.
[ Is it? Cain's trying to curb his amusement, but he suspects he's not doing a very good job of it. His usual lackadaisical manner just doesn't lend itself well to that to begin with. But still, he's glad that Percival hasn't brushed him off and stormed out — he means what he's said about them getting along. He truly doesn't wish there to be any awkwardness between them, problems developing from any lingering unease about what they've done.
He settles next to Percival, leaving a few inches of space between them, for Percival's sake. They are adults, but it's obvious Percival needs a bit of careful handling. He doesn't want to scare Percival off before they've even really started this conversation, and that's already almost happened once. ]
And anyway, that's why we should spend some time getting to know each other!
[ It must be nice, to go through life with such a carefree attitude, unconcerned. He doesn't know him well enough to be able to tell whether Cain is truly a fool, or if he hides his worries.
Either way, the next statement surprises him. He's not even flustered, just genuinely surprised. ]
I... wouldn't be opposed? I'd like to learn more about Idelva Kingdom, as well.
[ It would be beneficial for expanding his knowledge. Maybe he'd make a friend along the way. Not that he'd ever admit that, of course. ]
[ Which is far more, he suspects, than Percival would think. But he doesn't care to disabuse Percival of any notions about his attitude. It's easier on everyone, he's found, if no one knows what burdens he truly bears.
Which is why he leans back, stretching, reclining on the pile of pillows left disturbed when he'd first lunged off the couch after Percival. He sprawls out, resting his cheek on one palm, settling in for whatever conversation is about to unfold. ]
And in that case, what should I tell you about first?
I'M GLAD
