[ He finds that hard to believe, and though he's quickly regained his composure, he's in danger of losing it again as his gaze lingers for a second too long on one of those marks on Cain's neck.
... Aaand, there goes his poise again. What kind of a guy was Cain, that he'd say such things so easily? Did he not realize the implications of his words? Or was Percival so flabbergasted that he could be so open and honest, the feeling being mutual, but Percival having the "sanity" not to speak it? ]
Oi, don't jinx it! Stop talking about love spells like it's going to happen ag--
[ First choice. FIRST CHOICE?! ]
I must get going. I'll be late for an important appointment!
[ Yeah, he's so flustered he's actually just leaving. ]
[ He watches for a second, genuinely surprised, as Percival beats a hasty retreat towards the door. And he tries, very hard not to laugh, but he can't help it, just— Percival is running away.
But Cain collects himself enough to rise, darting off the couch and crossing the room to wrap a hand around Percival's arm, just above the elbow, before he can get too far. ]
Wait, wait! [ There's only a twinkle in his eyes and the smile on his face to betray his laughter. ] It wasn't only politeness, of course. Come on, we should talk about it. [ He tugs at Percival's arm, gently, just a suggestion of heading toward the couch and sitting down for something more like a real conversation. ] I don't want this to be a problem between us.
[ He would argue that he's not running away, but that the matter is settled and there's nothing else to discuss. (He's totally running away).
He does stop before he can completely leave, glancing down to where Cain tugs on his arm. He frowns, but follows Cain's implied suggestion of sitting down. ]
There's no problem between us. We are adults, aren't we?
[ He was mostly worried that Cain might be upset, but now, seeing that he's not, he's mostly just annoyed that he feels mocked. ]
I don't know about you, but I'm not typically intimate with someone that I barely know.
[ It's something that exposed vulnerability in him, which he doesn't allow to be seen so easily. ]
It should be obvious, then, that I don't consider it an amusing matter.
[ Is it? Cain's trying to curb his amusement, but he suspects he's not doing a very good job of it. His usual lackadaisical manner just doesn't lend itself well to that to begin with. But still, he's glad that Percival hasn't brushed him off and stormed out — he means what he's said about them getting along. He truly doesn't wish there to be any awkwardness between them, problems developing from any lingering unease about what they've done.
He settles next to Percival, leaving a few inches of space between them, for Percival's sake. They are adults, but it's obvious Percival needs a bit of careful handling. He doesn't want to scare Percival off before they've even really started this conversation, and that's already almost happened once. ]
And anyway, that's why we should spend some time getting to know each other!
[ It must be nice, to go through life with such a carefree attitude, unconcerned. He doesn't know him well enough to be able to tell whether Cain is truly a fool, or if he hides his worries.
Either way, the next statement surprises him. He's not even flustered, just genuinely surprised. ]
I... wouldn't be opposed? I'd like to learn more about Idelva Kingdom, as well.
[ It would be beneficial for expanding his knowledge. Maybe he'd make a friend along the way. Not that he'd ever admit that, of course. ]
[ Which is far more, he suspects, than Percival would think. But he doesn't care to disabuse Percival of any notions about his attitude. It's easier on everyone, he's found, if no one knows what burdens he truly bears.
Which is why he leans back, stretching, reclining on the pile of pillows left disturbed when he'd first lunged off the couch after Percival. He sprawls out, resting his cheek on one palm, settling in for whatever conversation is about to unfold. ]
And in that case, what should I tell you about first?
