[ There's a long, long pauses before Cain answers, and then all Percy gets is the sound of someone slapping at his communicator and a sleepily mumbled: ]
[ well, he's definitely alive at least. That's a relief. But sleepy sounds an awful lot like physically compromised, so the alarm isn't completely gone. ]
[ Immediately, there's the sound of scrambling, followed by the a loud thump — the sound of Cain flailing himself right off the bed in his haste to sit up and try to grab his phone. ]
[ Well, no. He's supposed to be honest. Not to keep things like this from Percival. He pulls himself back up onto the bed, adding, a bit more quietly: ]
That is, I'm fine now. I was injured, but it wasn't life-threatening.
[ To him, it feels like just yesterday he'd been in Cain's company, but that isn't so for Cain. He wants to see him. ]
I'm aware that there isn't anything I could have done to prevent my sudden stasis... and yet, I am sorry that I wasn't there to protect you all the same.
There's no apology needed. Truly. [ He takes a deep breath, lets it out. Some tension he's been holding these past months finally vanishes. ] I was glad to at least be able to see you were safe.
[ It's been so long. But... he'd at least had Percival's sleeping face to see, the reassurance that Percival was alive still, well, whole. That was enough. Cain hadn't needed to be protected, hadn't needed Percival by his side, so long as he could be sure that Percival was safe. At least, that's what he'd told himself. ]
I'm in room Thirteen-Ten at the residences they've given us in Nadril— Percival. [ He smiles, his voice going low and sweet. ] I've missed you.
[ The change in Cain's voice is enough to make Percival's tension ease on the other end of the line, a small smile on his lips. Time may have passed quickly for him, but he will be happy to see him in person nonetheless. ]
Have you? Did you not seek comfort in the arms of another while I slumbered? [ The sounds on the feed indicate that he's gotten up and is heading towards the given directions. ]
